Teaching your kids where food comes from and letting them help you grow your own is a huge foundation for creating a healthy respect for food and a good eater. Kids are more eager to eat and taste the food they grow or pick themselves. Even if you don’t have a yard there are foods you can grow at home and field trips you can take your little ones on that will give them the same appreciation.
I grew up with a backyard garden and always wanted one of my own and now I am excited to share this with my daughter. Tom & I tried a few years ago when we lived in California. The landscaping and layout were beautiful, but the results weren’t great. Since we moved to Indiana we have been improving, but I am still learning a lot.
I have begun to start my own seeds and am expanding my gardens and trying new things every season. As The Great Pumpkin grows I will be trying to find projects and activities to get her involved in growing our own food and taking care of the pollinators and other beneficial bugs.
The spot that will probably have the most info and updates throughout the gardening season is Instagram. The blog will focus on more detailed projects and ideas for you to teach your little ones about how food grows.
