Meredith Kong of Lick Ice Cream

Meredith Kong of Lick Ice Cream

meredith_episode

I had a lot of fun recording my episode with Meredith. Talking about ice cream probably had something to do with it, but I think it had more to do with her being fun and relaxing. Just from talking to her she is just the person you would expect to own an ice cream shop.

Ice cream is my favorite. I am alway down to try a new flavor and have been known to go out in the most inclement weather to get a good cone. The day this airs I will likely be heading to Lick to get an ice cream sandwich or cone to celebrate my birthday!

If you like ice cream, want to start your own food business or just wonder what it is like to own an ice cream business this episode will have something for you.

As always I hope you enjoy the episode. If you do please share with some friends on Facebook. You can find me on Facebook here.

What is Big Food

October 21, 2016 by anne

What is big food?

Maybe you have heard the term, maybe you haven’t. The following articles about how to change your eating habits and vote with your dollar depends on at least a general idea of what is on the shelves of your grocery store.

You can’t fight an enemy you don’t understand. Make no mistakes about it, they are an enemy.

Big food refers to the dozen companies that own the majority of the brands in the grocery store. Some of these might surprise you. That cute brand of bars, the fancy water, your favorite organic yogurt could all be owned by a larger conglomerate. It can be a lot to keep up with. Just the other day I was surprised to find out Lara Bar is owned by General Mills

Sarah Adams of Indy’s Winter Farmers Market

indy winter farmers market

Today we are talking to Sarah Adam. She is the manager of the Indy Winter Farmers Market, also a farmer for Growing Places Indy, she has a lot of insight on what you can find at the Winter Market and local food. You might be surprised at just how much you will be able to find.

We talk about some of the differences from a summer market and all of the great programs offered at the Winter Market. Like, did you know you can do yoga on Saturday mornings and your donation for the class goes to a matching program to help people with SNAP benefits?

If you want to start voting with your dollars getting to know the Indy Winter Farmers Market is a good place to start. If you are new in town and are seeking a like-minded community, been around but want to get to know some farmers or just want something social to do now that your summer market is gone this is the place for you.

The vendor list was just announced and it looks like this will be another great year.

Becky Hostetter of Duos

Becky Hostetter episode

Becky Hostetter is one of the most cherished people in the Indianapolis food scene and has been for years.

I have known Becky for years through her amazing kids and from my summer job busing tables at her first restaurant, and the first vegetarian restaurant in Indianapolis, Essential Edibles.

When I decided to make a podcast about food in Indianapolis and the Midwest I knew I wanted to start with Becky. She has spent years impacting, cultivating and curating the food scene in Indianapolis. I knew she would provide everyone with a view of where we were, where we are, and where we have the potential to go. She didn’t disappoint!

If you want to get into the Indianapolis food scene and aren’t sure where to start this conversation with Becky will give you lots of ideas and resources.
